TTLock-compatible locks run on hardware made by Sciener and licensed to many lock brands. Sciener publishes an API and SDK that any developer can build against, which is why several independent apps exist alongside the official TTLock app. Smart Lukko is one such independent, third-party app: it is not affiliated with TTLock or Sciener, but it works with the same class of locks over the same Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol and, where fitted, the same Wi-Fi gateways.

Because every compliant app ultimately talks to the same lock firmware and the same cloud backend, the practical differences between apps come down to interface design, account and organisation features, and how much of the underlying protocol they expose — not to what the lock itself is physically capable of.

• Replace the cloud account system. Passcodes and eKeys still rely on the lock or gateway being connected and in sync; no app can make an offline lock respond instantly to a remote command.
