How to share eKeys and manage access
With Smart Lukko you can give family, guests, and staff their own digital access without handing over a key. This guide covers sending eKeys, choosing access levels, and revoking access at any time.
What is an eKey?
An eKey is a secure digital key tied to a person's Smart Lukko account. Unlike a passcode, an eKey lets the recipient unlock the lock from their own phone and can be managed or revoked remotely.
Step 1: Send an eKey
- Open the lock in Smart Lukko and tap “Send eKey”.
- Enter the recipient's Smart Lukko account (the email or phone they signed up with).
- Choose the validity type—timed, one-time, recurring, or permanent.
- Optionally allow remote unlock and send the eKey.
Step 2: Choose the right access level
- Permanent — for household members who need ongoing access.
- Timed — valid only during a date and time window, ideal for guests or cleaners.
- One-time — works for a single entry, then expires automatically.
- Recurring — repeats on a schedule, such as weekday mornings.
Step 3: Manage roles and permissions
As the administrator you can grant an authorized user the ability to manage their own access, or promote a trusted person to admin. Review who has access at any time from the lock's settings.
Step 4: Revoke access instantly
Plans change—and so can access. Open the lock's eKey list, select any key, and delete it to revoke access immediately. The person loses entry the moment you confirm, keeping your home secure.
